<p>John D. Porter, Jr., age 80, of Pekin, Indiana passed away Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Salem Crossing.&nbsp; Born August 22, 1940 in Mitchell, Indiana, he was the son of the late John Denzil Porter, Sr. and Beryl (Mann) Porter.</p> <p>John loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and to mow.&nbsp; He was a retired truck driver with over 25 years of service; a member of the United States Army; a member of the American Legion Post 41&nbsp;and VFW Post 6636; and a member of Carters Creek Christian Church.</p> <p>He is survived by his significant other, Sheila Brown; 4 children: Trent Porter, Kelly (David) Niehaus, Chad Porter, and Angela Kelly; 1 brother, Bill (Delores) Hadley; 2 sisters: Thersa Thayer and Rita Nash; 9 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.</p> <p>He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Jeffery Todd Porter; 1 brother, Jim Porter; and 1 sister, Maxine Porter.</p> <p>The funeral service will be held Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home-Salem Chapel with Jerry Allen officiating.&nbsp; Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.&nbsp; Burial to follow in Mitchell Cemetery will full military honors.</p> <p>www.hughestaylor.net</p>

John D. Porter, Jr., age 80, of Pekin, Indiana passed away Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Salem Crossing.  Born August 22, 1940 in Mitchell, Indiana, he was the son of the late John Denzil Porter, Sr. and Beryl (Mann) Porter.
