David C. Zietlow Obituary

David C. Zietlow, 60, of Watertown, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2020 at the home of his youngest sister, surrounded by his family. The song “Knocking on Heaven’s Door” by Guns N’ Roses was playing as he took his last breath. Immediately after, “Mama I’m Coming Home” by Ozzy Ozbourne began to play.    David Clarence Zietlow was born on April 22, 1960 in Watertown, the son of Clarence and Alice (nee Hilse) Zietlow. He attended Watertown High School. He worked on the Vette farm, previously owned by his grandparents and the farm that was his first home.  He then went to work for Paul and Mary Jaeger on their dairy farm for ten years before working construction for over 32 years, owning and operating Z & S Builders with his father before his passing. He played trumpet in the Lebanon Band and also played dartball on the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Lebanon team. He previously was a member of the Lebanon Lions Club.  He enjoyed riding his Harley and taking trips up north to his land in Birnamwood, where he planned to move to in his retirement this year.   David was previously married to Kim (nee Henson) in 1989.  He is survived by his son, Joshua Zietlow; grandchildren, Cole Zietlow and Levi Olson; step-daughter, Tami (Brian) Key; step-grandchildren, Jaedyn and Oliver Key; siblings, Ruth (Robert) Martin, Mark (Darcy) Zietlow, and Rachel (Jay) Smith; nieces and nephews, Zachary Martin, Brooke (Justin) Laird, Kaitlyn (Tim) Mallow, Jacob Smith, Jackson and Jonathan Zietlow, as well as other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.   Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. at the Sugar Island Barn with Rev. Roger Zehms officiating. Family and friends may gather at the barn from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service. A buffet will be served from 6 – 8 p.m., music will be provided by the Van Eske’s and the celebration will go to 10 p.m. at the barn.  Burial will take place at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Sugar Island on his birthday in 2021 with a motorcyle ride that he had preplanned.  Memorials, if desired, should be directed to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Building Fund.  Dave’s wishes were to REPAIR THE STEEPLE and started a Steeple Fund by making the first donation. To make it easier on the family, please honor his wishes if giving a memorial.  Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family.
