https://event.forgetmenotceremonies.com/ceremony/?c=5280d724-2f3f-4be4-81a7-aa1aafca75c4 POPLAR-SURETTE, Desiree Rose – age 17, of Nine Mile River, suffered an unexpected and catastrophic brain aneurysm on Tuesday, September 15, and passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 19, 2020. Desiree’s wish was to be an organ donor which was granted on September 20th through the Legacy of Life. Born in Lebanon, New Hampshire, she was a daughter of Roger Surette of Massachusetts and Tabitha Poplar of Joggins. Desiree had a full beautiful life in which everyone that knew her, loved her. She began her dancing career at the age of 4 and was a competitive dancer with RSI Danceworks for over ten years. Desiree was a proud member of 2937 Enfield Army Cadets, achieving the rank of Warrant Officer. She was a very active, outgoing girl who enjoyed mountain biking, hiking and loved kayaking. Above all this, she cherished her special bond with her dog, Cooper whom she loved with all her heart. She will be tremendously missed by her parents, Darren and Kathy McDonald, who have been in her life since Desiree was 22 months old; her beloved sister, Madison McDonald, at home; brother, David Daborn, Nine Mile River; grandparents, Charles and Janet McDonald, Cornwall PEI, Warren and Donna Wasson, Deerfield, New Hampshire, and Gloria "Sissy" Surette, New Hampshire; aunts, Sharon (Donald) Hay, Cornwall, PEI; Angela Grant, Halifax; Danielle Poplar, Joggins; Michele Surette Guarino (Jospeh), Malden, MA; Juliana Surette, Malden, MA; uncles Andy (Nancy) McDonald, Cornwall, PEI; Shawn McDonald, PEI; Michael (Gloria) Grant, River Hebert, NS; Thomas Surette, Malden, MA and Derek (Amy) Surette, Lynn MA as well as numerous cousins. Desiree was predeceased by grandparents, George and Linda Grant; Danny Poplar; Roger "Pudgy" Surette. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private service will be held 2pm Friday September 25, 2020 in Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie, Father Michael Walsh officiating.
