Thelma Oehler Obituary

Thelma Oehler, 100 passed away September 19, 2020 at Cloverleaf Nursing Facility after a brief stay. She was the only daughter born to Orville and Nina Randall Henson, on July 14, 1920, in Owen County. She was educated in Owen County along with her five brothers, Franklin, Chester, Curtis, Robert and Kenneth. In December 1938 she married Lewis Rubeck and to this marriage two children were born, Veda and Gary. The family moved from Owen County to Brazil in 1956. Thelma worked at several jobs including, Oehler’s 5 & 10, The Fashion, Hunts Pleasant Acres and Rexall Drug. In 1966 Thelma married Richard Oehler and moved to Illinois to be his help with his farming operation. They later returned to Brazil following his retirement and they became active in the First Presbyterian Church. Richard tragically passed in 1990 and Thelma was alone. She spent the rest of her life with her daughter Veda Bussing and her son in law, Dave. The last two years were spent as a resident of the Villas of Hollybrook, and Dave and Veda had their daily visits with her there. Thelma was an excellent cook and her hands were never idle. She was always reading or working on one of her many needlework projects at which she excelled. She so looked forward to and enjoyed her recent celebration of her 100th Birthday. She received 125 cards and blessings. She was preceded in death by her parents; her five brothers and her son, Gary Rubeck. Survivors include, Veda and Dave Bussing, Jean Ludeman (Steve), Doug Oehler (Kay), Darrel Oehler (Colleen), 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren and sister in law, Alma Henson, and her son Gary’s wife Sandy. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 12 noon at Clearview Cemetery with Gary Scroggins officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family strongly encourages donations to be made to CASA, 609 E.
