Funeral services for long time Town of Pollock Mayor, auctioneer, and retired educator, Jerome Fred Scott, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2020 in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Pineville with Reverend Brian Gunter officiating. Interment will be in the Scott family plot in Pollock Cemetery. Visitation with the family has been set from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Monday, September 21, 2020 and continued Tuesday, September 22, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Pineville. Jerome Scott, 64, of Pollock, Louisiana entered eternal rest at Rapides Regional Medical Center on Friday, September 18, 2020. He was born November 28, 1955, at James Connolly Air Force Base in Waco, Texas, the first-born son of Julius Fred and Elsa Eula Warnock Scott. Mr. Scott was a charter member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Pineville, Louisiana. He retired after serving 30 years dedicated to the education of children, having served as teacher, educational diagnostician, Section 504 Coordinator, and school administrator. He was a 1973 graduate of Duncanville High School, and earned B.S. (1978), M.S. (1980), and Ed.S. (1982) degrees from Baylor University. In 1981, he received the W.I.S.D. Special Education Teacher of the Year Award. In 1995, he was included in Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and in 1996, Mr. Scott was named Louisiana's Educational Diagnostician of the Year. He was honored in 2004 as Educator of the Year by Louisiana Department of Corrections/O.Y.D. Mr. Scott graduated from Missouri Auction School in 1995, and was the owner and operator of Scott Auctions. In addition to his business, he served helping others as licensed auctioneer for numerous community, church, and civic charity auctions. He served for many years as board member of the Grant Dogwood Festival Association, the Pollock Cemetery Association, Louisiana Special Olympics, Grant Parish Historic and Cultural District, the Grant Parish Schools Health Advisory Board, and was a founding member and long-time president of S.H.A.P.E. (Society for the History, Arts, Preservation, and Education) of Pollock. Mr. Scott was founder of Krewe of Theaur, and served as Mardi Gras Krewe Captain from 1994-1998. He was past Scout Master (1988-1991) in Pollock. Mr. Scott played in four movies, winning Best Actor Award at the 2007 Full Moon Film Festival. He was a charter member of Kiwanis Club of Grant Parish, a member of the Grant Arts Council, the Sons of Confederate Veterans, the Magnolia Ballroom Dance Club, and Mensa. Mr. Scott was a member of Karem Shrine Temple, a member of the Grand Lodge of Texas as a Master Mason of Lodge 92, and a member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry 32" Degree. Mr. Scott married the former Patricia Ann Roshto on June 24, 1983. Jerome and Patricia were dedicated to each other and spent their happily married life of 34 years traveling the U.S. and the world, enjoying the arts, researching genealogy and history, collecting artwork, coins, and antiques, enjoying and entertaining family and friends, and enjoying life to the fullest being "best friends". In 2007, they purchased and made their home in Oction House, the largest and oldest remaining residence in Pollock. Jerome and Patricia lovingly restored all three floors of the 21 room, 8,000 square feet Greek Revival mansion into the grand and opulent Victorian style of its former self. Jerome was a loving husband, son, brother, and a friend to all, always thinking of others before himself, and always preferring to give to others rather than to receive. Mr. Scott was a long-time Pollock Town Councilman and then was overwhelmingly elected by the citizens to serve as their Mayor for five terms. He is the longest serving mayor of the Town of Pollock. He was well-known for his love of Pollock as a "community family", his keen ability to acquire hundreds of grants for the town, his beautification efforts in Pollock, his efforts to research and preserve Pollock history, and especially his good deeds and generosity extended, often "behind the scenes", to others in need. During his tenure as Mayor of Pollock, Scott spear-headed measures to bring business development to Pollock's industrial park. He loved Pollock, and was always determined to make the Town of Pollock a better place to live. Mayor Scott proudly oversaw community development and brought many town and park facilities, as well as beautification projects to reality, often dipping into his own pocket for "a worthy cause". He wrote a children's book, Willie the Purple Worm, and donated all the proceeds to fund a new nature park in Pollock. During his tenure as mayor, the Town of Pollock was recipient of several state and national achievement awards. Scott was always ever so mindful to take measures to ensure that Pollock became more fiscally sound than ever in the past. He brought the Town of Pollock totally out of debt, eliminated property taxes in the town, maintained the lowest water rates in the state, provided free garbage pickup to the citizens of Pollock, spearheaded a blessing box that still provides food to the local needy, started a lending library for the town citizens, and amassed a large savings for the Town of Pollock. Mr. Scott never accepted pay for his work as Councilman or as Mayor during his several terms, but instead, donated the money back to help fund projects, activities, and functions for the people of Pollock. In 2001, he was awarded the Grant Parish Local Hero Award, and in 2006, he was named the Central Louisiana Civic Leader of the Year by the Knights of Columbus. In 2019, he was awarded the Central Louisiana Hometown Hero Award. He performed numerous wedding ceremonies in the Town of Pollock, often in the parlor of Oction House. Over the years, Mr. Scott's good deeds were often "in secret", whether it was lending a helping hand to a needy family, purchasing new Christmas lighting for Pollock, working with the elderly, or playing Santa Claus in the community, at nursing homes, hospitals, and at the homes of needy families. His work for others was largely done without publicity, although he did not mind standing before a camera when it came to promoting Pollock, the Dogwood Festival, or any other cause that he truly believed would help make his community a better place. Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 34 years, Patricia Ann Scott. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother and father, his brother, Stephen E Scott, Sr., many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends. Pallbearers will be Matt Dezendorf, Barrett Dezendorf, Dennis Dezendorf, Tony Martin, John Genova, and Jacob Hebert. Honorary Pallbearers are the Town of Pollock employees, Town of Pollock Police Department, Pollock Town Council, District #5 Fire Department personnel, Masonic Lodge 92, Scottish Rite Bodies, and Karem Shrine Temple.
