Roland Rouire Obituary

Roland Rouire

Peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends, Roland passed away at the age of 72 years at his residence in St. Claude, Manitoba on Friday, September 18, 2020.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 51 years Pauline (née Marion); his children, Guy (Lise), Mona (Bryan) and Chris (Shelley); his grandchildren, Stéphane (Kaitlyn), Maxine (Mac), Sam, Lianne, James (Rebecca), Bryce (Chantal), Tyler (Kate), Danica and Nathan; and one great-granddaughter Adèle. He also leaves to mourn his passing his siblings and in-laws, Maurice Rouire, Joseph (Francine) Rouire, Alice Labossière, Raymond (Anita) Rouire, Yvonne (Roland) Dequier, Diane (Ron) Anaka, Anita (Ron) Baschuk, Simone (Roger) Badiou and Denise (Randy) Fox, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Roland was predeceased by his parents Ernest and Yvonne Rouire; his siblings and in-laws, Denise Rouire, Georgette (Guy) Lemieux, Albert (Jeanne) Rouire, Florent Labossière and Angèle Rouire; and his nephew, Rhéal Rouire; his parents-in-law, Paul and Francine Marion and great-nephew Braden Russell.

Dad was born in Treherne and was raised on the family farm in Haywood. Here, he developed his work ethic at a very young age with his loving family. In 1969, Dad married the love of his life, Pauline Marion. Shortly after they moved and settled in St. Claude and began their family. In 1979, Dad opened his farm supply business B&R Seeds Ltd which he operated for nearly 30 years. The business was sold to his oldest son and is now known today as R-Way Ag. Dad worked tirelessly until his retirement in 2007, but he continued to visit the seed plant on a daily basis.

In addition to running a successful business, Dad always found time to give back to his community by volunteering on various committees and helping out when ever needed. Dad always made time to help family and friends while ensuring he never missed a family function. His attention to detail and work ethic was like no other and he made sure to pass these to his children and grand-children. He also spent over 40 years assisting Adams Funeral Home with local funerals. Once retired, Dad found a love for music and learned to play the mandolin. Dad started his own band with family and friends and recorded a few albums. Although his music never made the Billboards charts, his music was loved by many. Dad will always be remembered for his kind heart. He had a gift with people, always making time to chat with whoever crossed his path. No matter where we went, everybody seemed to know “Rolly”. He enjoyed spending time at the cottage in Pleasant Valley with his family and friends doing things he loved including boating, fishing and hunting. His winters were spent with mom in Osoyoos, BC and Yuma, Arizona enjoying time with friends, finding deals at flea markets, playing music and dancing at jam sessions.

In April 2017, Dad began his battle with Plasma Cell Leukemia and fought hard to the very end. Special thanks to everyone at Cancer Care Manitoba and Portage Hospital for the amazing care provided to Dad during his fight with cancer.
