South Plainfield - Joseph R. Guzzo, 86, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2020 in Ashbrook Care and Rehab of Scotch Plains. Born in Linden to the late Joseph and Palmina Guzzo, Joseph is a long time resident of South Plainfield, settling in the Borough 60 years ago. He served with the United States Army after the Korean War in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1955. A career over the road truck driver, Joseph initially operated his own route for many years prior to retiring with Lease Line in North Brunswick. Joseph took great pride in his vegetable garden, sharing his tomatoes with his neighbors, friends and family. He also loved spending time with his family; clamming, fishing and crabbing as well as cooking for holidays and family gatherings. Known to enjoy a fine cigar from time to time, he was also handy when it came to fixing cars and woodworking. Predeceased by his wife, Helen who died in 2009 as well as six siblings; surviving are his four children, Susan Bontempo and husband David, Joanne Azulay, Richard Guzzo and wife Natalie and James Guzzo. He will also be missed by his six grandchildren, extended family and friends. Family and friends may gather in the funeral home on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 10AM in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield NJ 07080, with funeral services beginning at 11AM. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery, Linden.
