Benny Thompson a native and resident of Philadelphia Community passed away Thursday, September 17, 2020 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s at the age of 77. Visitation will be held at Hixson Brothers, Pineville on Sunday, September 20, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Monday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Funeral services for J. Benny Thompson will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 21, 2020 at Philadelphia Baptist Church with Reverend Philip Robertson and Reverend Glenn Price officiating. Burial will be in Philadelphia Cemetery, under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Pineville. He was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church. He proudly serviced his country in the United States Army. He worked at Dresser Industries for 38 years. Benny enjoyed Camping and attending the Oak Grove and Hickory Grove Blue Grass Festivals. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with the grandchildren. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 55 years, Diane Lincecum Thompson; son, Jeffrey Thompson (Stephanie) of Deville; daughter, Renée Thompson Wiggins (Jon) of Hickory Grove; 4 grandchildren, Kaci Thompson Bradley (Taylor), Daniel Wiggins (Marcy), Hunter Thompson (Marlee) and Gavin Wiggins; 2 great grandchildren, Elizabeth Bradley and soon to be Spencer Dell Wiggins; brother-in-law, Boyd Mathews; Host of other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James B. Thompson and Gladys Douglas Thompson; sisters, Thelma DeSpain and Marie Mathews and grandson, James (Jamie) Thompson. Pallbearers will be Daniel Wiggins, Hunter Thompson, Gavin Wiggins, Taylor Bradley, Ronnie McCormick and Culby Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Skeeter Speir, Tom Sanders and Steve Sanders. The family wants to say Thank you to Faith Foundation Hospice for their loving care – Pam Brossett and Benny’s “Special Friend” Lee Ethel Giles. His sitter’s Melba Wilson and Melba Wiley and Lee Giles.
