<p><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Andrew S. Hassay of Fountain Valley, CA passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, at the age of 80 after a prolonged battle with metastatic cancer. </strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Andy was born in Pennsylvania in December 1939 (the exact date is still being debated) to John and Mary Hassay and was the youngest of eight children. He grew up in Nanticoke, PA, served in the US Air Force, and completed a degree in Physics at Rutgers University. </strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>After completing his degree Andy utilized his training and education to pursue several opportunities before eventually securing a position as an engineer at RCA where his work focused on the transistor. This would lead him to Southern California and TRW before he pursued pioneering advances in the biomedical industry with Baxter International. Andy was largely a reserved and quiet man, a car enthusiast, who was deeply devoted to, and engaged with, his family. While he remained at the forefront in technological advances in a fast paced professional career, Andy never missed an athletic, school, or life event for his family.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Andy had a seemingly limitless reserve of arcane knowledge from small things like being able to explain the physics behind how spark plugs work or what economic factors impact interest rates to explaining the speed of light or how to throw a spiral with a football - wonderful knowledge for any father to possess. He also had a passionate hankering for lemon desserts and a staggering ability to consume coffee day and night.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Andy is survived by his wife, Nancy Hassay; sisters, Irene Deschak and Christine Pudimott; sons, Jason, James, and Jeff Hassay and their families; and seven grandchildren - Rosie, Anthony, Joshua, Hudson, Harrison, Zooey, and Abraham. Andy learned of the birth of his newest grandson, Abraham, hours before passing.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>A funeral service for Andy is planned for Monday, September 21, 2020 at 2pm.
