       1949 – 2020


Michael Anthony Rutter, husband of Anna Marie (Lahey) Rutter of Glenwood, New Brunswick passed away on September 17, 2020 at the age of 71.  
Born in Wallasey, England on February 2, 1949, he was the son of the late Thomas and Marion (Tipping) Rutter.


Michael was a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Teacher, Coach, Mentor, and Friend.  He loved the River and its people, had a fondness for kids and animals, and was extensively involved in his community leaving a positive impact on many.  He was a Teacher for thirty-three years before retiring into a continued career of volunteerism.  He was a member of St. Michael’s Basilica; Board of Director for the Miramichi Sports Wall of Fame; was inducted into the Miramichi Sports Wall of Fame; a lifelong volunteer of Chatham Minor Hockey and Hockey New Brunswick; past President of the Miramichi Golf & Country Club; member of the New Brunswick Teachers Association; Manager of the James M. Hill Tommies Hockey Team; one of the original founders of the Miramichi Salmon Tournament; was involved in numerous national baseball championships and volunteered with the Miramichi Irish Festival.


Michael Anthony Rutter is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Anna; sons:  Christopher (Charlene) of Miramichi, Patrick (Angeline) of Florenceville-Bristol, NB; daughters:  Kathleen (Mike) Arnold of Sussex, NB, Jennifer (Nathan Carey) Rutter of Miramichi; brothers:  Terry Rutter of Springfield, Ohio and Wayne Rutter of London, ON; sister, Susan Rutter of London, ON; grandchildren:  Tristan, Brittney, Jorden, Michael, Nolan, Keegan, Mason, Kelly, Lane, Phaelan, and Ariah; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Michael is also survived by special O’Reilley friends.  


Michael is predeceased by his parents; brother, Robert; mother-in-law, Patricia Lahey; brother-in-law, David Lahey and special friends:  Ben and Dorothy O’Reilley.


A public visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King Street, Miramichi on Sunday, September 20th, 2020 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM.  A public Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Michael’s Basilica on Monday, September 21st, 2020 at 11 AM with Father John Keoughan as Celebrant.  Music for the service was provided by Jackie Allain and the hymns were: "Be Not Afraid", "How Great Thou Art", "Prayer of St. Francis" and "Peace is Flowing".  The scripture readings were read by:  Larry Batt and Bill Lahey.  The Prayers of the Faithful were read by Dan Valin.  The eulogy was presented by sons:  Christopher and Patrick Rutter.


The honorary pallbearers were:  Tristan Smith Charlton, Brittany Charlton, Jorden Rutter, Michael Rutter, Nolan Rutter, Mason Zwaneveld, Keegan Rutter, Kelly Arnold, Lane Arnold, Phaelan Carey, Ariah Carey and Dominic Charlton.  Active pallbearers were:  Dave Henry, Greg Keating, Brian Lordon, Dax McLean, Marc Zwaneveld and Kevin Bowes.   Interment was in the St. Michael’s Cemetery.
