MCCHESNEY, William D. Sr. “Bill” – of Clio, age 79, died Friday, September 18, 2020 at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at St. Charles & Helena Catholic Church, 230 E. Vienna Rd. Clio. Father Ken Coughlin officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church on Tuesday from 3:00 -8:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also take place on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Charles & Helena Catholic Church. William was born on April 28, 1941 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma to Thomas and Bernice (Ford) McChesney. Bill was raised most of his earlier years in Oklahoma. He then joined the U. S. Air Force, where he proudly served his country during the Cuban Missile Crisis. While stationed in Oscoda, Michigan he met the former Judy S. Schmidt, they would later marry on August 3, 1962 in Tawas, Michigan. They moved to the Clio area in 1974 and he would begin to work for General Motors at Chevy Manufacturing “in the hole” and would retire from there on October 1, 1999. Bill was a member of St. Charles & Helena Catholic Church in Clio, the Frankenmuth Conservation Club and VFW Post 158. Bill was an avid hunter, he loved his guns and enjoyed being a gun dealer. He liked working with leather, making all sorts of things, such as belts, bowling bags, purses, and gun slings. After retirement Bill and Judy enjoyed traveling, they traveled all over the United States. Their favorite spots were out west in Arizona and Las Vegas. Bill also loved the time he spent with his grandchildren teaching them all sorts of things in life, from fixing a flat tire to putting something back together. He was a very kind and polite man, he is what you’d call a Jack of all trades, he was very knowledgeable about many things. Most important to Bill was his family, he dearly loved them and cherished the time they were able to spend together. Surviving are: Wife, Judy of 58 years; Children, Bill (Dianne) McChesney Jr., Jeff (MaryAnn) McChesney, Cindy (Ronnie) Hawley and Jodi Kline; Good friend of the family Jeff “Woody” Bloss; Grandchildren, Ryan (Becky) McChesney, David (Caitlin) McChesney, Sean McChesney, Tyler (Samantha) Kline, Jessica (Carl) Luney, Joshua McCormick, Hunter Hawley and Nick (Jessica) Dean; Great Grandchildren, Milo, Ryker and Grace Ann; Sister, Carol Hinson; Brother in law Buddy Fernandez and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his Parents; Siblings, Florence, Walt, Leo and Rosie; In laws Jack and Ruth and Good friend Jimmy Moore.
