Donna Merrick Moss Obituary

Donna Margaret Moss was born October 22, 1939 in Shamrock, Texas to Onna Christien (Shinn) and Walter Franklin Merrick. She passed away Tuesday, September 15th, 2020 at Cheyenne, Oklahoma at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 24 days.   Donna grew up in Crawford, Oklahoma where she attended Crawford schools before continuing her education at Panhandle A&M University where she originally pursued a degree in art. It was during this time she married Jerry Anderson. She later transferred to Central State where she completed her English education degree in 1964. She began her teaching career at Northwest Classen in Oklahoma City and continued with various other schools in Oklahoma, Missouri and New Mexico. On a brief break from teaching, she was among the first group of women hired by Merrill Lynch and was a founding member and president of the Executive Women International, located in Dallas, Texas. She resumed teaching, ending her career in 1979 at Cheyenne, Oklahoma. She married Bob Moss on February 10, 1979. They owned the Stable Steakhouse in Sayre and went on to own and operate many businesses including the Black Kettle Trading Post, in Cheyenne. She and Bob designed, manufactured and sold furniture and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States while delivering their works of art. While her children attended Cheyenne schools, she served as President of the Cheyenne All Sports Association. In 2003, she was appointed as the Tag Agent for Roger Mills County. During this time, she also served as President of the Chamber of Commerce. She loved running the Tag Agency because it gave her the opportunity to stay connected with and serve the community that she loved dearly. Many stopped by to chat with her even when not needing her service. She was a mentor to anyone needing encouragement. Besides traveling, she enjoyed sewing, painting, studying native American culture and collecting artifacts.   She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Jim Merrick and one nephew Kash Merrick.   Donna is survived by her husband, Bob, of the home in Cheyenne, OK; 8 children, Rick Anderson of Canute, OK, Kevin Anderson and wife Deborah, Chula Vista, CA, Mark Anderson and wife, Mariela, The Woodlands, TX, Misti Kohart and husband, Todd, Meade, KS, Micah Moss, Pueblo, CO, Chip Anderson and wife, Sheri, Weatherford, OK, Mandi Berry and husband, Ty, Texhoma, OK and Kimberly Anderson Staton and husband, Trent, Loomis, CA; 23 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren with 4 more on the way; sister, Lynnie Suthers and husband, Buddy; 1 brother, Joe Merrick and wife, Sherry and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
