MADISON – Ruth Hodges Hazelwood, 91, died on Wednesday, September 16, 2020. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 19, 2020 at the Old Mayodan Municipal Cemetery, 3rd Avenue. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., Saturday at Colonial Funeral Home. Social distancing guidelines will be observed and face coverings are encouraged. Mrs. Hazelwood was born on August 27, 1929 in Surry County to the late Walter Hodges and Minnie Martin Hodges. Ruth enjoyed knitting, sewing, cooking and taking walks. She also enjoyed playing bingo and rook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Franklin Hazelwood; sons, Charles and Robert Hazelwood; grandson, Kevin Hazelwood; sister, Ruby Dodson and brothers, Raymond and Robert Hodges. Survivors include her sons, Billy Wade Hazelwood (Helen) and Dennis Ray Hazelwood (Joyce); daughter, Ann Carter (Jerry); sister, Elsie Hall; grandchildren, James Hazelwood, Denise Brim, Misty Southern, Billy Hazelwood, Jr., Karen Holt, Melissa Lowe, Anthony Hazelwood, Tracy Hazelwood, David Hazelwood and Christina Goins; twenty-three great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Colonial Funeral Home in Madison is serving the family.
