Martha Nell Lewis

Martha Nell Lewis was born at home on July 7, 1932 in Robeson County, the second daughter of Leroy Elbert Lewis “Roy” and Wilma Knotts Moore Lewis. She always said “she was blessed to have hard-working Christian parents.” She was a farm girl, a member of the 4H Club, an avid fisherman, bowler, and family historian.<br/><br/>She was a graduate of Lumberton High School, Class of 1950, and King’s Business College, Charlotte. Employed by FCX Wholesale and FCX Retail in Lumberton; The National Bank of Lumberton, Union Carbide, Asheboro, Southern National Bank, Hamlet, Ellerbee Merg Co., Ellerbee. <br/><br/>Nell joined the Methodist Church in Rockingham on March 21, 1965. In September of 1972 she became a bookkeeper of First United Methodist Church, Rockingham and retired December 31, 1993.<br/><br/>She held offices in local and district United Methodist Women. Served as Rockingham District Treasurer of the United Methodist Church and served one term as a member of the Stewardship Committee of the NC Conference of the United Methodist Church.<br/><br/>Nell never married; however she was a member of the family of George and Nina McDuffie, Timothy Dean McDuffie, Jonathan Mark McDuffie, and Martha Ellen McDuffie. Later Mark and Betty had two sons, Jonathan Travis and Adam Ross McDuffie. Martha and Tim Gibson had a daughter, Ellen Michelle Gibson. These were members of her chosen family and she loved them as her own. <br/><br/>She leaves to cherish her memories, her brother: Charles Robert Lewis and family; a chosen son: Jonathan Mark McDuffie and wife Betty and their children: Jonathan & Adam and their grandchild: Dominic; and a chosen granddaughter: Ellen Michelle Gibson DePoy and husband Stu.<br/><br/>A graveside will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at Gardens of Faith Cemetery with Pastor Allen Bingham officiating.<br/><br/>Services entrusted to Boles-Biggs Funeral Home. <br/>
