Shirley Bolton

Shirley Bolton, 88, of Winterset, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2020, at Azria Health in Winterset. Shirley was born March 10, 1932 in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Claire and Beatrice Hughes. She graduated from Fontanelle High School in 1950. Her marriage to Donald Bolton took place on June 1, 1952, at Highland Methodist Church in Fontanelle, Iowa. She was a homemaker and later retired from Continental Western Insurance Company. Shirley loved to garden and cook; everyone loved her ham balls. She loved reading, journaling, crafting and sewing. She liked camping and traveling; taking many trips through the Golden Opportunity Club with her husband, Don. Family was especially important to her. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shirley was a member of the Colonial Guild, Order of the Eastern Star, and the United Methodist Church of Winterset. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Deb Perkins of Winterset and Lisa (Gary) Smith of Winterset; siblings, Arthur Hughes of Texas, Dorothy Kratzer of Colorado and Roberta McBurney of Cedar Rapids; daughter-in-law, Julia Bolton of West Des Moines; 13 grandchildren, Andria, Nick (Jamie), Brandon (Jackie), Chris (Rebekka) Dominic,Caylyn, George, R.J., Stacey, Aaron, Heather (Tyler), Juston (Monica), Ryan, Cole (Sam); 16 great-grandchildren, Cooper, Beau, Henley, Kyle, Winter, Everly, Joseph, Jackson, Camille, Cohen, Rylee, Brody, Marlee, Caleb, Keaton, and Makenzie; 3 great great-grandchildren, Tysen, Maya and Brantley. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; son, Wm. “Bill” Bolton; granddaughter, Peyten Spencer; and 3 great-grandchildren, Hayden and Colebie Smith, and Chance Bolton.
