Doris Hinton Tew, 91 of Roanoke Rapids, NC passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2020. She was born in March 2, 1929 to the late Carl Carrington and Margaret Elizabeth Seamster Hinton and was preceded in death by her husband, James Richard “JR” Tew, Sr. and her brother, Leon C. Hinton, Sr. Doris grew up in Burlington, NC and was a graduate of Elon College (Now Elon University). She was a former deaconess and Sunday School Teacher at Rosemary Baptist Church, she taught school for 35 years and retired after 31 years with the Roanoke Rapids Graded School District. Doris is survived by her sons, James Richard “Jimmy” Tew, Jr. and his wife Sherry of Winston Salem, NC, William Hayes “Billy” Tew and his wife Lisa of Henrico, VA; her five Grandchildren, James Richard Tew, III and his wife Becca, Sara Elizabeth Willingham and her husband, Jonathan, William Hayes Tew, Jr., Evelyn Virginia Tew and Elizabeth Wilkie Tew and her six great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 11 am with Dr. Layne Wallace officiating at Rosemary Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, NC. Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC. The family will receive friends after the interment at Cedarwood Cemetery.
