Charles C. Vanderburg Obituary

Charles C. Vanderburg, of Texarkana, Texas passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at a local hospital.  He was 92.  Charles was born December 4, 1927 in De Kalb, Texas to Lawrence Taylor and Mary Elizabeth Kennedy Vanderburg.  He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps and the United State Air Force and was a retired Sales Marketing Representative for Servomation Corp.  Charles was a member of De Kalb First United Methodist Church, the American Legion, VFW, Optimist Club, Elks Club, and the Republican Party.  He was involved in the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation, the Tulln Air Base, Austria Reunion, and the Ramey Air Force Base Historical Association.   He is preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Myrtle E. Knight Vanderburg and Numancia Mary Quijano Vanderburg; two brothers, Luther R. "Dick" Vanderburg and Thad Vanderburg; and two sisters, Melba Strickland and Sarah Garrett. He is survived by two sons, Scott Vanderburg of Grand Prairie, Texas and Martin Vanderburg of New Bern, North Carolina; one daughter, Sharon England of Erie, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Jeane Duren of Mesquite, Texas and Vida Brine of Texarkana, Texas; one brother, Don Vanderburg of Texarkana, Texas; six grandchildren, Sara Caballero, Joshua Vanderburg, Zachariah Vanderburg, Alex Vanderburg, and Jason Vanderburg; five great grandchildren; a special friend, Joan Thisius; and numerous other relatives and friends. Services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 18, 2020 at the Woodmen Cemetery Pavilion in De Kalb, Texas with Rev. Amanda Stratton officiating.  Interment will follow at Woodmen Cemetery under the direction of Bates Family Funeral Home.  Mr. Vanderburg will lie in state from 1:30 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Thursday, September 17, 2020 at Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas.  Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, PO Box 396, De Kalb, TX 75559.
