ALEXANDRIA, IN – William P. “Bill” Cooper, 92, went to his eternal rest on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 from the Alexandria Care Center following an extended illness. Bill was born on June 19, 1928 in Alexandria to Fred and Esther (Burton) Cooper. He was a graduate of Alexandria High School-Class of 1947. In his early years, Bill had worked at Warner-Gear in Muncie. Bill was a skilled mechanic and had owned and operated service stations in Alexandria. He will probably best be remembered for the Ashland Service station on South Harrison that he operated with his buddy Kenny Harting from 1966 to 1975. He also drove a school bus for the Alexandria School Corporation for 20 years retiring in 1975. Bill was a long-time member of the Alexandria Church of the Nazarene and had been involved in the construction of the new church on South Harrison Street. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Bill was a loving and giving Christian man, whose memory will bring warm smiles to those who knew him. Survivors: 2 Daughters-Shirley Barger-Alexandria, Julie (Terry) Dulworth-Red Bowling Springs, Tennessee Son-Mark Cooper-Alexandria 9 Grandchildren-Greg Walker and Rachel Walker in California, Andrea Walker (Mike), Lori Katz-Carmel, Lisa (Don) Richards-Zionsville, Josh (Jaimie) Cooper and Ben (Katie) Cooper all of Alexandria, Bridget (Darren) Gregory-Hartsville, Tennessee, Krystal Chapman-LaFayette, Tennessee 13 Great-Grandchildren Several nieces and nephews Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife-Patricia (Clegg) Cooper in 2012, a daughter-Connie Crites in 2016, his son-in-law-Jim Douglas in 1979, 2 sisters-Pearl Brotherton and Garnet Shaner Services honoring Bill’s life, legacy and faith will take place at 2 pm on Friday, September 18, 2020 in the Alexandria Church of the Nazarene, 1401 South Harrison Street with Pastor Mark Diemer officiating. Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria. The family will receive friends after 1 pm Friday at the church. Owens Funeral Home is honored to care for our longtime friend Bill and again serve the Cooper family. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alexandria Church of the Nazarene. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff and caregivers at the Alexandria Care Center for their loving care of Bill for the past 10 years. Social distancing and appropriate facial masking will be observed.
