<p>Harland D. &ldquo;Hap&rdquo; Tompkins Sr., 83, of Wooster, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at Ohio&rsquo;s Hospice LifeCare, in Wooster, after a battle of COPD and lung cancer.</p> <p>Roberts Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, Wooster is assisting the family with arrangements. Inurnment will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.&nbsp;&nbsp; Online tributes may be made at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com.&nbsp;&nbsp; Memorial contributions may be made to Wooster Township Fire Department 1917 Millersburg Rd, Wooster, OH 44691 or Ohio&rsquo;s Hospice LifeCare at 1900 Akron Rd, Wooster, OH 44691.</p> <p>Hap was born March 18, 1937 in Grafton, Ohio to Harry G. and Julia B. {Kelley} Tompkins.</p> <p>He was a 1955 graduate of LaGrange High School and was a member of the 54&rsquo;-55&rsquo; LaGrange Keystone K.A.T.S Hall of Fame basketball team.</p> <p>Hap and Dora Callihan eloped on September 22, 1955.&nbsp; She survives.</p> <p>Hap retired at the age of 72 from Halliburton Services in Wooster, after 29&frac12; years. He loved watching Cleveland Indian&rsquo;s and Ohio State sports, especially football and basketball, and watching his grandchildren&rsquo;s sports. Hap loved farming when he was young and later mowing yards for neighbors and friends that needed help.&nbsp; He wore out quite a few John Deere mowers, but most of all, he loved anything that had to do with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Hap enjoyed attending cookouts, family reunions, and birthday parties.&nbsp;</p> <p>Hap will be deeply missed by his wife of 65 years; sons David of Wooster, Larry of Lakeville and Hap Jr. of Orrville; daughter Joy (Butch) Wiles of Creston; grandchildren Erin (Mickey) Ryan, Andrea (Ryan) Uhler, Dan Wiles III, Ryan (Morgan) Wiles, Amanda Tompkins, Amy Tompkins, Jordan Tompkins, and Lyndsey Tompkins; great-grandchildren Colleen, Mary Claire, Evelyn and Catherine Ryan, Emma Uhler, R.J. Wiles, Kylee Tompkins, Jesse Rowe, and Taylor G. Tompkins; sister Marion Tompkins of Lakewood; several very special nieces, nephews,&nbsp;cousins, great nieces, and great nephews.&nbsp;</p> <p>Hap was preceded in death by his great-grandson Adrian Joseph Tompkins-Barnes, brothers Howard, Harry &ldquo;Skip,&rdquo; and Virgil (Coleen) Tompkins, sisters Ruth (Al) Goodrich, Viola (Dick) Broome, Evelyn (Wesley) Broome, and Nancy Burton.</p> <p>Per his wishes, there will be no services and cremation has taken place. Please have a cup of coffee, blow a kiss to heaven, and tell your loved ones how much you love them. Hap is gone, but forever in our hearts and memories, stay safe.</p> <p>As he was protected in his later life, he wants you to stay protected in your life now.</p>

Hap was born March 18, 1937 in Grafton, Ohio to Harry G. and Julia B. {Kelley} Tompkins.
