Harold Christian Lund Obituary

LUND

Harold Christian

July 1, 1932 - September 11, 2020

Dad passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, September 11th on the farm where he lived his whole life and that he loved very dearly.

Harold’s family includes his wife Pauline, daughters Debbie (Harry), Lori (Lee), Della (Harvey) and son Lehn; his grandchildren Stephanie (Ryan), Candace (Greg), Peter (Sarah), Shayla (Drew), Kyle (Erin), Troy (Amy), Dayl (TeddiAnn)
and Ava; and his great-grandchildren Kevin, Kurtis, Rozlyn, Scottie, Lincoln, Wyatt and Ryann. He is also survived by cousins in Denmark, whom he loved very much; Anker, Grethe, Jorgen, Peter and their families.

In 1958, Dad married the love of his life and his best friend Pauline, and they worked side-by-side for 62 years.
He was a very dedicated farmer and father and was incredibly successful at both; their beautiful farm is proof of their hard work. Both were very active in the Dalum community, including the 4-H Club, Hall Board and Church Council. Dad and Mom spent many hours playing crib but only in months that end with an “R”.

Dad had many hobbies and became a master of them all. Dinner bells, jewelry boxes, garden sheds, out houses, home renos; he was a jack of all trades! He restored an old family carriage that was falling apart on the farm. It took him many hours to complete. Family members were able to sneak the carriage off the farm without his knowledge, and as a surprise for his 80th birthday he was shocked to see his carriage entered in the Canada Day Parade!

Other projects that were important to Dad were the windmill and the barn that stand in the center of their yard today. He was committed to keeping everything on the farm in excellent condition and working order.

Dad always enjoyed watching sports of any kind; hockey, baseball and curling especially. He even tried waterskiing despite his fear of water and his inability to swim!

But his greatest joy was when his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids stopped by to share their latest adventures with Papa.

After spending a few weeks in the Calgary hospital, he was finally transferred to Drumheller. He was happy to be closer to the farm and the land he loved. The glow on his face was unparalleled when he was finally in the truck and headed home.

Dad will be fondly remembered by his family in Denmark who have anointed him the “King of Canada.” He travelled there as often as possible to visit his family and friends. There will be a celebration in honour of Dad on September 16th at the Vesterkro in Skodborg, Denmark.

Dad always enjoyed a cold Akavit with good friends and family. Though we can’t have a gathering to celebrate Dad’s life at this time, he would love it if the next time everyone had a skoal, they remembered him warmly.

In lieu of flowers or cards, donations can be made to the Dalum Community Hall Association, the Dalum Fire Protection Association or the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dalum.
