Debra K. “Debi” Shannon, 67, of rural McCune and a former Parsons area resident, passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on Monday, September 14, 2020, at her home. She was born on August 19, 1953, at Parsons to Henry Owen and Anna Letha (Burke) Strait. She grew up south of Parsons and attended Labette County schools graduating from Labette County Community High School in 1971. She and Michael J. Ewing were married in 1971 at the Nazarene Church in Parsons. They traveled to various bases across the country while her husband was in the military. They later divorced. Debi moved to Huntsville, Arkansas, and later to the Parsons and McCune area. She worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant, Derailed Commodity in Brazilton, Lew Thompson Trucking Company in Huntsville, Arkansas, and Elm Acres in Columbus. She enjoyed cooking, geocaching, fishing, and social media. Debi attended the Oswego Assembly of God Church in Oswego. She and Leon Shannon were married on June 7, 1996, at the Westside Christian Church in Parsons. He survives of the home at rural McCune. In addition to her husband, Leon, Debi is survived by her sons, Benjamin “Ben” Ewing of Pittsburg and Christopher “Chris” Ewing of Yelm, WA; her grandchildren, Bryon Michael Ewing and Lillian Elizabeth Ewing; her sister, Vickie Price of independence, MO; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Joey Ewing, her parents, Henry Owen and Anna Strait; her brothers, Jerry Strait and Pat Strait; and her brother-in-law, Robert Price. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, September 21, 2020, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Pastor Travis Ball officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery at Parsons. The casket will remain closed. The family will receive friends at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home from 4 to 5 p.m., Sunday. Memorials are suggested to the Proud Animal Lovers Shelter and these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home 112 N. 26th St., P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357.
