John Fergus Querrey Osceola, Iowa Obituary

John Fergus Querrey

John Fergus Querrey, son of Lloyd Querrey and Judy (Burns) Querrey was born February 12, 1962 in Des Moines, Iowa and passed from this life suddenly, Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at his home in Austin, Texas at 58 years of age. John moved to Osceola with his family in 1969. He attended school in Osceola, Iowa and graduated from Clarke Community High School with the Class of 1981. He attended Iowa State University for a time before moving to Austin, Texas. John began working in construction and later started Querrey Concrete, which he has owned and operated for thirty years. John was a hard worker and one of the best in the concrete business. He built many well known places in and around the Austin area including, Bergstrom International Airport, Kalahari Water Park, Austin Schools, Fairmont Hotel, and many high rises in downtown Austin. Many in the area knew him as the"King Of Concrete"! John loved life and was very outgoing and fun loving, had a great sense of humor and made you laugh with his deep voice. He had a heart of gold and was very generous to everyone. However, John's greatest love was for his daughter, Lauryn. She meant the world to him and he did everything to make her happy. He was a huge fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, loved to play golf, enjoyed being in the sun whether it be at the beach, boating or deep sea fishing and or course relaxing in the hot tub. Music was another passion of John's, especially 70s Rock & Roll and according to daughter, Lauryn, "He also loved the Beatles and Elvis Presley". He always had the news on television and enjoyed watching "Two and A Half Men" and "King of Queens." His friends and family knew him as a great cook who loved to BBQ and smoke meat. His ribs were among the best and his "no carb" tortillas were next to none. Those relatives who preceded John in death were his grandparents; John D. and Catherine Querrey and Fergus and Ronnie Burns; uncle, Michael Burns and aunt, Janelle Agey. John leaves to cherish his memory; his daughter Lauryn Querrey of Austin, Texas; father and step mother Lloyd & Marcia Querrey of West Des Moines, IA; mother, Judy Querrey of Osceola, IA, brother, Steve (Michele) Querrey of Des Moines, IA, brother, David (Beth) Querrey of Dallas, TX, step-sisters, Jacque (James) Richards of Johnston, Jodi (Tony) Adamson of West Des Moines, Julie (Bruce) Moore of Indianola, and Jennifer (Jim) Keislar of Clive; uncles, Richard (Bina) Querrey of Iowa City and Fergus (Joan) Burns of West Des Moines, IA; aunts, Sue (Richard) Bonde of Osceola, IA, Sharon (Mancel) Jones of West Des Moines, IA, Kathy Hall of Memphis, TN, Fran (Denny) Burns of Kansas City; niece, Katie Querrey, nephew, Daniel Querrey, and niece, Ashley Ferguson, as well as other relatives and many friends. Celebration of Life will be held at Osceola Eagles Lodge Aerie #3495, Saturday September 19, 2020 from 5:00-9:00 pm with a time to share stories and memories at 6:30 P.M.
