Joyce Anne Whitehead, 71, DeSoto, Kansas passed away Monday, September 14, 2020 at her home. Celebration of Life will be 11:00 am Saturday, September 19, 2020 at DeSoto United Methodist Church, 8760 Kill Creek Rd, De Soto, Kansas 66018. Inurnment will be at Stoehr Elmdale Cemetery, Elmdale, Kansas on September 26, 2020 at 11:00 am. Memorials may be made to De Soto United Methodist Church. Joyce was born June 16, 1949 to Edwin Gillette and Dorothy Grace (Willey) Giger in Elmdale, Kansas. Joyce grew up in Elmdale and graduated from Elmdale High School in 1967. She attended Emporia State University and Ottawa University. On June 23, 1968 Joyce married Robert “Bob” D. Whitehead in Elmdale, Kansas. They recently celebrated 52 years of marriage. Joyce and Bob lived in Osawatomie, Prairie Village, Overland Park and then De Soto in 2000. She was HR manager for Sprint in Overland Park, Kansas for 25 years before retiring in 2014. Joyce was a very active member of the De Soto United Methodist Church. She was an accomplished photographer and enjoyed playing Bridge and Bunco as well as watching birds. Joyce is remembered as joyous, vibrant and a faithful follower of God. Her passion for God’s love was evident in her relationships with her family and many friends. Joyce especially adored her seven grandchildren. She cherished time she spent with her family, faithfully capturing joyful moments with her love of photography. Joyce is preceded in death by her father Edwin Giger and sister Alice McDaniel. She is survived by her husband Bob of the home; mother Dorothy Giger of Elmdale, Kansas; daughters: Chellie and husband Jeff Brady, Kansas City, Missouri, Lisa and husband Bobby Berbiglia, Kansas City, Missouri and Lori and husband Brian Glenski, Prairie Village, Kansas; grandchildren: Ashton, Riley, Shelby, Tanyon, Beatrice, Vivien and Ayden; brother Alan Giger, Elmdale, Kansas; sister Debbie Irby, Valley Center, Kansas and brother-in-law Mike McDaniel, Longmont, Colorado.
