Evelyn Alford Swails

Andrews: Evelyn Alford Swails, 90, widow of Henry Lee Swails, died peacefully Tuesday morning, September 15, 2020, at her residence. Mrs. Swails was born in Florence County on November 29, 1929, a daughter of the late Ellie P. Alford and Alice Hyman Alford. She was taught a strong work ethic by her parents and demonstrated that by working over 40 years with her brother, Noot, at Alford’s Florist. She was a lifelong member of Happy Home Original Free Will Baptist Church where she served in many different capacities, she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and was a member of the Widow Circle. She always had projects to do around the house, and enjoyed enlisting her children to get those projects done in a very timely fashion. She enjoyed serving others by visiting the elderly in nursing homes and making blueberry clobbers for her neighbors. She was married to the late Henry Lee Swails, Jr. on September 4, 1952. Their home was blessed with two children Rodney Lee Swails (Tammy) and Jennifer Swails Olmstead (Kerry) and three grandchildren, Amy Viksna-Saya, Rodney Lee Swails, II, Allison Beasley, and two great grandchildren, Leo Viksna-Saya and Cobi Swails, and two step-grandchildren Ethan Olmstead and Katie Olmstead. She is also survived by; her brother, Etheridge (Noot) Alford (Dora), two sister-in-laws Mary Alford and Juanita Howard, and numerous nieces and nephews. A special thank you to caregivers Peggy Warr and Mina Jean Cumbee McGee She was predeceased by her three brothers Rev. John Henry Alford, Nathan Alford, and Rutledge Alford; three sisters Aline Parrott, Lizzie Mae Cox, and Louise Evans. She was also predeceased by a special niece, Margie Miller, who was her caregiver for many months before her passing in August 2020. Funeral Service will be eleven o’clock Thursday, September 17, 2020, at Happy Home Original Free Will Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Marty Cox and the Rev. Thad Jacob, Burial will follow in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday in the church sanctuary form ten until eleven o’clock. Memorials can be made to Happy Home Freewill Baptist Church, 56 Big Dam Swamp Drive, Andrews, SC 29510. Please sign a guestbook at: www.mayerfuneralhome.com.
