Mother Beatrice Porter Obituary

Mother Beatrice Richmond Porter was born June 22, 1929 in Byhalia, MS to Inez Hall Richmond and Ernest Richmond. She was the fifth of eleven siblings.  She departed this life on September 13, 2020 at 4:47 pm at Methodist Le Bonheur Hospital, Olive Branch, MS.

She accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age and joined Nichols Chapel CME Church in  Byhalia, MS, and she later joined Mt. Newell MB Church in  Red Banks, MS with her husband. She retained her membership till her death. There she served on the Usher Board, a Choir member, the Mother’s Board and  a Secretary. She also served as Secretary to the Holly Spring/Marshall County Baptist Association for several years.

On June 15, 1946 she married Percy Porter, to this union was born five children. One preceded them in death. She attended Byhalia Rosenwald School where she played Basketball and apparently was a very good player.

She was preceded  in  death by her husband, Percy Porter,  her parents, Ernest and Inez Richmond, four brothers, Narvie, Daniel, Boyd,  and  Ernest Jr.,  three sisters, Ella Mae Black, Agnes Black and Bessie J. Richmond, two grandsons, Min. Scottie J. Stewart and Rev. Kevin E. Terrell, PhD.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving children, Percy Porter (Gloria) of Olive Branch, MS,  Min. Kathleen S. Terrell of Memphis, TN, Charles Porter of Byhalia, MS, Gussie Porter of Byhalia, MS, two sisters, Josephine Charles (E.P.) of Los Angeles, CA, Inez Charles (Robert) of Englewood, CA, one brother, Earl Richmond (Annette) of Pleasant Hill, MS, grandsons, Patrick Porter (Twanjua) of Glendale, AZ, granddaughters,  Sharetta W. Kitchen  (Robert) of Olive Branch, MS, Sonia J. Thompson  of Hernando, MS, two sisters-in-law,  Helen K. Gray of  Blue Mountain, MS and Fannie Odom of Memphis, TN, four great-grandsons, DeAndre Wells of Dallas, TX, Jordan Porter of Glendale, AZ, Brandon Thompson of Hernando, MS, and Jairus Stewart of Memphis, TN, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She left a legacy of loving, caring, and giving to anyone she could help in her own quiet way.
