Donald P. Good

Donald P. Good, 90, of rural Dennis, died at 2:38 p.m., Sunday, September 13, 2020 at his home. He was born April 18, 1930, at Labette City, to Elmer R. and Elizabeth H. (Daum) Good. He attended the Wood’s School, located in the area later part of the Kansas Ordnance Plant, and Franklin School, also east of Parsons. He attended East Junior High School in Parsons and graduated from Dennis High School. His family moved to the Dennis area in 1943. Don and Marilyn Jo Scott were married December 31, 1949 and have celebrated 70 wedding anniversaries. Don worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant and later operated the Western Glass Company and Mistletoe Express. He was employed by LaForge and Budd Construction Co. for 15 years until his retirement in 1992. He was in the United States Army Reserves from 1950 to 1952 and from 1952 to 1956 served in the U. S. Navy – Seabees. During this time he was stationed at San Diego, California, Gulfport, Mississippi, Africa, Cuba, Norfolk, Virginia and the Anguilla and Antigua Islands. Don and Jo have lived on the present farm since 1966 and in retirement have enjoyed traveling to many places. One of his favorite trips was a nine week visit to Alaska in 2000. Other hobbies and interests included hunting, fishing and camping. Surviving are his wife, Jo, of the home; three children, Craig L. Good (Lisa) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Pamela K. Larson of Grove, Oklahoma and Connie J. Baker (Bruce) of Dennis; seven grandchildren, Hannah Baker, Bryce Baker (Sara Cruse), Joshua Kennedy (Lisa Stork), Brett Larson, Kaitlyn (Larson) Epperson (Chase), Olivia Good and Jillian (Good) Barber (Cody Green); six great-grandchildren, Rylee Larson, Aidyn Epperson, Zoey Epperson, Logan Epperson, Easton Cruse and Carson Baker; a brother, Richard E. Good of Parsons. Preceding him in death were his parents, Elmer and Elizabeth Good, a daughter, Carla J. Kennedy and a sister, Darlene Good Ryburn. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Dennis with Military Honors given by the United States Naval Funeral Detail and the Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m., Wednesday. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to either the Dennis United Methodist Church or the Kansas Honor Guard.
