GARRY LUDWIG SANHEIM Peacefully on September 8, 2020, after a brief hospital stay Gary Sanheim, age 77 years, passed away at Selkirk Hospital with family by his side. Dad had many health struggles over the years that he tackled and fought with grace. Never complaining. He passed peacefully in his sleep. Dad is survived by his wife Judy, his children Samantha, Keith (Naomi) granddaughters Vanessa and Serena, Darcey (Raymond) and his former wife Clare. Dad was also privilege to be step father to Darcy (Tara) grandson Logan, Earl (Dusti) grandchildren Brook (Derrick) twin great-grand-daughters Quinn and Pipper, Marissa, Braden, Kayla, Kyle, Rhonda (CJ) grandchildren Dale and Emily. Siblings Ruth, Emma, Gord, Earl, Jean, sister in law Maryanne as well as numerous nieces and nephews also mourn dads passing. Dad was predeceased by his parents Dora and Tony, oldest brother Leo, and brothers in law Leonard Close and John Wolvansky. Dad was the fourth of seven children for Dora and Tony and grew up on the family farm just outside of Tyvan, Saskatchewan. Dad got a job with Sears and moved to Regina. He married Clare in 1965 and had Sam and Keith while living in Regina. Dad ‘s job brought the family to Winnipeg, where along came Darcey. Once in Winnipeg, dad began working as a truck dispatcher for Kingsway and Servall. The family moved to Oakbank, Manitoba in 1977 where dad lived until the early 90’s when he moved to his little piece of heaven on earth near Stonewall with Judy and her family. Dad and Judy got married in 2010...and our family officially grew! After his move to Stonewall dad and Judy opened the Mountain Inn restaurant in Stony Mountain which they ran for 8 yrs. After closing the restaurant dad worked as a dispatcher for John Eichel Trucking until his retirement. Dad loved playing baseball and hockey in his younger years and enjoyed watching everything sports on tv. The Blue Jays, the Jets and the Bombers were some of his favourite teams. He was always up for a mean game of crib! Later on, Dad became very involved in the I.P.C.C.C pony club where he was the announcer and president for many many years. He loved the club and made some of his closest friends there. Dad was known for his sense of humour and always had a joke or a smart response ready. Dad loved all things country music. He spent many hours playing his guitar and singing the oldies, whether that was at home or around the bonfire while taking requests from his song books at the races. He sang over a hundred songs. He loved to dance and was an awesome dancer. He was always up for an olde time waltz or a lively polka. As he got older dad spent more and more time enjoying his love of fishing. Dad was happiest in the boat holding his fishing rod and talking smack...he loved a friendly competition. Dad took a lot of pride in his yard and loved his John Deere garden tractor. Dad was a huge supporter of the Children’s Wish Ride and participated for many years. Dad loved Christmas and it showed through his Christmas light display which he was known for and was recognized in the local paper. Every year people would go out of their way to check out his light display. The family would like to thank the staff at Selkirk hospital for the care and compassion given to Dad during his brief stay. Special thanks also to the Renal unit for all of the care given it to Dad over the years. Due to Covid-19, a private family service will take place.
