Elizabeth Duchscherer Obituary

December 24, 1944 – Irvine, Scotland September 12, 2020 – Cranbrook, British Columbia Elizabeth “Liz” Duchscherer (nee Macleanan) passed away peacefully on September 12, 2020 at the Kootenay Street Village in Cranbrook British Columbia, with her family at her side, she was 75 years old. Liz was born December 24, 1944 in Irvine, Scotland; at the age of 7 her family moved to Birmingham, England where she spent her childhood. As a young woman Liz spent a few years in Germany before moving to Canada where she spent some time in Vancouver and Kelowna before settling with her family in Calgary in 1980. After moving to Cranbrook 1990, she worked for the Foster Parent Assoc. and then for the Cranbrook Caregivers Support Group, which highlighted Liz’s true passion of helping and supporting people through her knowledge, understanding and kindness. In her free time Liz could be found at the Bingo Hall or playing cards with family and friends, she also enjoyed knitting, reading and going to the theater or Stars on Ice productions; and of course she always made time to accompany Ralph to the wagon races! The family is grateful for the care and friendship of Liz’s neighbors and friends, especially Monica, Jackie and Joan who helped her out so much over these last few years. The family also wishes to extend their appreciation to the nursing staff at Kootenay Street Village for their kindness and compassionate care in the last part of Liz’s journey. Liz was predeceased by her partner for many years, Ralph Salmond. She is survived by her son Aaron (Emma) of Calgary, AB; older brother John (Pauline) Macleanan of Queensland, Australia; younger sisters Meg (Allan) Bigelow of Cremona, AB, and Sue (John) Brough of Lichfield, England. She will also be dearly missed by her nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her as Grandma Liz. Due to Covid restrictions, Liz’s Memorial Service will be by invitation. A recording of Liz's service will be available on the Memorial Video Tab of this obituary after September 18th.
