Baileyville – Melissa Anne (Jones) Corbett, 51, passed away following a long battle with a rare autoimmune disease on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. Melissa was born in Calais on July 9, 1969, daughter of Dale and Bernita (Shain) Jones. Melissa graduated from Woodland High School, Class of 1987, and Husson University with an Associates Degree in Medical Assisting. She became an administrative assistant with Georgia Pacific until starting her career with Cianbro in 2005. Melissa loved her job and was employed with Cianbro until her illness in 2014. She loved exercising, especially aerobics, watching suspense shows, and listening to her “80’s hair bands”. Melissa had a big heart for animals and made sure to financially support humane societies each year. Melissa was predeceased by her grandparents, Fred and Martha Jones, and Dan and Jean Munson; and five uncles, Arthur Shain and wife Ruth, Martin Brown, and Bernard, Gerard and Gordon Jones. Surviving are her parents, Dale and Bernita Jones of Princeton; her daughter, Samantha Corbett and companion Timothy Keen of Cooper; her sister Cyndi Sockabasin and husband Ron of Princeton; three nieces, Carly Corbett and fiancé Bronson Kneeland of Baileyville, and Alexis and Kara Sockabasin of Princeton; a great-niece, Madelynn Collins; many cousins and dear friends; and her babies, feline companions Smurf and Cash, and canine companion Daisey. Due to COVID, a celebration of Melissa’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Melissa’s memory to PAWS, 368 South St., Calais, ME 04619.
