James Douglas "Jim" Flood Obituary

James Douglas "Jim" Flood, age 86 of Hardinsburg, KY peacefully entered eternal rest on September 11, 2020. He was born in Breckinridge County, KY on May 31, 1934, the son of the late Peter Paul and Mary Rachel Alexander Flood. Jim was preceded in death by nine siblings: Frances Ford, Aggie Hinton, Lorena Bland, Leo Flood, Pete Flood, Joe Paul Flood, Pat Flood, John Flood and Barbara Masterson.

Jim, a devout Catholic, attended St. Romuald Church his entire life where he served as an usher, picnic chairman, parish counsel member and a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus. A self-taught mechanic/body man, Jim was a hard worker who grew up farming and served two years in the United States Army where he was immediately promoted to top mechanic. Upon his discharge in 1958, Jim and his brother Pat established Flood's Body Shop where he worked until the age of 82. At that time, his son Doug, followed in his footsteps and continued to run the business. Jim missed the day-to-day routine of work, so he "supervised" a few more years.

Jim enjoyed spending summers at Rough River Lake on his boats Flo-Bo, Ome Omi II and Flo-Bo II and vacationing at Myrtle Beach with his family. He was a Cadillac man and owned a 1969 Limo, a 1986 Fleetwood Brougham, a 1997 Deville and a 2007 DTS which he stills owned. He loved having family reunions with his twelve brothers and sisters and their families, where he occasionally broke out his famous rain dance. Along with the monthly trips Jim and Barbara made to play slots, he loved his nightly ritual of Bingo scratch offs. He was an avid University of Louisville Cardinal fan.

After retirement, he enjoyed spending time outside working in his yard. He cherished family visits with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jim married the love of his life, Barbara Frances Specht, on June 9, 1962.

He is survived by Barbara and their six children: Linda Flood of Louisville, KY, Karen Dowell (Ron) of Lawrenceburg, KY,  James "Doug" Flood (Randi Kay) of McQuady, KY, Karla Dowell (Byron) of Hardinsburg, KY, Lori Aldridge (Ronnie) of Frankfort, KY and Donna Flood (William Ray) of Clarksville, IN.

Fourteen grandchildren: Rhiannon Basham, Meagen Brown, Zachary and Hunter Dowell, Cody, Cassidy and Delaney Flood, Caleb, Luke and Logan Dowell, Ethan, Jaclyn, Veronica and Brooke Aldridge.

Five great grandchildren: Brady and Eli Basham, Callie, Ivy and Ashlyn Brown

One brother: Tommy Flood of Lewisport, KY
