Ronning, Ila

Our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully September 3, 2020. She was 97.

Ila was an inspiration to us all. Her strong faith was evident in her commitment to others. She always asked us “What did you do to help someone else today?”

Her love and devotion to her family was central to her role as our matriarch. Christmas dinners, birthdays, Thanksgiving – any celebration- were  beautiful and loving productions.  Christmas Eve at the Ronning house was legendary.

Ila’s gifts and generosity were evident by her extensive volunteer time with the church. She was also a beloved 1st grade teacher and Preschool Director. As well as a friend to all.

When asked about her wishes for her funeral she simply replied “ I  don’t want a fuss about me. I would like my funeral to be an opportunity for others to hear the gospel”

We will deeply miss her stunning smile, infectious laugh, her zest for life and incredible work ethic. But most of all we will miss her commitment and full devotion to our family.

Ila is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dan. She and Dan were married for 70 happy years! She is also preceded by her parents, Dan and Bessie Rood and  her brother, Jerry (Leila) Rood. 

Ila is survived by her daughter, Beth (Carl) Swaggert and son, Bryan (Nancee) Ronning; grandchildren, Jake (Tricia) Swaggert, Leah Swaggert, Matt Ronning, Peter Ronning, Anna (Josh) Cohen and great-grandchildren Logan  & Claire Swaggert.

Due to the Covid pandemic, funeral services will be limited to immediate family. Burial at Fort Snelling.
