Jennie Charlotte (Jadwiga Zajac) Macior, 98, of Rome, NY, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2020 with her family by her side. She was born on May 5, 1922 in Bukowsko, Poland, and came to the United States at the age of nine. She married Chester Macior in 1941, who preceded her in death in 1987. They enjoyed a wonderful life together and were loving companions who shared many interests. Jennie is survived by her beloved children and their spouses: Sandra Macior Simpson (Ronald), New Orleans, LA, Linda Macior Segreto (Michael), Somers, NY, Trish Macior Abeln (Paul), Bloomington, MN, and Robert Macior (Jane), Lee, NY. She leaves behind six grandchildren: Jeffrey, Julie, and Mandy Simpson, Mitch and Kelly Abeln, and Erica Macior. She also leaves behind four great-grandchildren: Marleni, Chloe, Kaleb, and Phoebe. She is predeceased by her only sibling, Charles. Jennie was a dedicated mother, first and foremost. She cherished her four children and embraced every moment with them. She especially treasured her roles as grandmother and great-grandmother. Distance never mattered---she always found a way to be with her loves. Jennie adored her “outlaws,” as she affectionately called the spouses of her children, and had a special relationship with each one. She would often remark how lucky she was to have them in her family. She shared her love with foods that had her perfected touch: pierogi, golumpki, oatmeal cookies, and babka that no one could get enough of. Jennie had the heart of a vagabond and loved to travel, especially to be with family in Minnesota, New Orleans, and New York. Her vivacious personality made it easy to make friends everywhere. She could be impish and a spitfire. Most of all, she was fearless, and terrified her family with bungee-jumping and white-water tubing adventures. In more tranquil moments she made treasured memories with her children and grandchildren on Delta Lake and the St. Lawrence River. Animals were special to her and she had many throughout her life---the two closest to her heart were Smokey and Bongo---a sweet dog and a cuddly cat who at times was her traveling buddy. At 94, she happily announced that all of her five senses were intact, then sheepishly added she also had a sixth one---her sense of humor. Affectionately called the “Scrabble Queen,” Jennie could take down the best with her enviable knowledge of rarely used three-letter words. She had pages of them, and encouraged the less fortunate among us to memorize them, too. Jennie’s spirit was the energy that engaged all who crossed her path. She lived her life with the belief in doing what’s right and doing what’s good; in being kind and forgiving; in laughing and helping others to laugh. She had a generous heart and a watchful eye for those in need. People were drawn to her warmth, gentle nature, and kind wisdom. At word of her passing, Michael said it best: “She was the sun in her family’s universe.” Jennie was deeply grateful to Robert and Jane (who she considered her “fourth daughter”), who were devoted and loving caregivers for the many years after her beloved husband passed away. Her quality of life was ensured by their selfless attention to her ever-increasing needs. Jane’s compassionate awareness and inexhaustible desire to bring comfort to Jennie speaks of her kind-hearted benevolence. The family would also like to express their deep appreciation to the extraordinary staff at the Grand Nursing Home at Rome who tenderly watched over Jennie and truly befriended her over the past three years. Due to health concerns there will be no calling hours. A private Mass will be held at Transfiguration Church in Rome, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations for Catholic Mass Intentions, the Multiple Sclerosis Association, the American Cancer Society, or the American Heart Association would be appreciated.
