Betty Jane Sheese Obituary

Betty Jane Sheese, 92, of Terre Haute peacefully passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Sunday, September 6, 2020 at 2:38 PM in her home surrounded by her family.  She was born September 4, 1928 in Terre Haute, Indiana to John Samuel Huffman and Clara Lavada Purdy Huffman.  Betty is preceded in death by her parents; siblings Pauline Bell, Lorene Young, Marjorie, Clarence, Gary, Larry and Virgil “Bush” Huffman; two daughters Linda Pharris and Teresa Sheese; granddaughter, Elizabeth Jane Morris, as well as her son-in-law Bob Morris. She leaves behind to cherish her memory five daughters, Debbie Grayless (Curt), Darlene Morris, Kathy Sheese, Clara Garcia, Ada Robinson (Lamar), as well as three sons Herbert Jr., Jimmy (Penny) and Bobby Sheese (Colleen); several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, as well as cousin.  Betty graduated VCSC then obtained her degree in nursing at Ivy Tech Community College.  Betty was a nurse at Meadows Manor North and the Vigo County Home.  She enjoyed camping, fishing, mushroom hunting, boating and traveling.  Betty spent many mornings going to Bible study, prayer, and worship meetings with her mother, sisters, and friends.  She enjoyed listening to Christian music and sang with her children at churches in several states.  Every opportunity she had, she would be in church with her ten children.  She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and often said her only regret was she didn’t do it sooner.  In 2005 Betty was nominated for the Terre Haute’s Mother of the Year Contest and won.  Betty had many accomplishments in her lifetime, but above all she loved and served her heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ.  The next most important thing to her was her family who she adored, nourished, loved, and treasured with all of her heart. Betty will be missed by many.   Visitation for Betty will be held at DeBaun Springhill Chapel on Monday, September 14 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM with services beginning at 1:00 PM.  Burial at Highland Lawn Cemetery will follow. Pastor Keith Taylor will be officiating.
