Our beloved Maria Juana Mendez, age 77, was called to our Heavenly Father on Thursday, September 9, 2020. She was preceded in death by her father, Victoriano Vargas; her sister, Paula Vargas; her brother, Ramiro Vargas; two infant siblings, and son-in-law, Nolberto Maldonado. Maria is survived by her loving husband of 60 plus years, Jose Tiburcio Mendez; her mother Emerenciana Cervantez; her children, Maria Julia Mendez and her husband, Santos Alejo, Maria del Rosario and her husband, Joaquin Reyes, Jose Jaime Mendez, Gabriela Vargas and her husband, Saturnino, Angelica Cruz and her husband, Eladio, Christina Mendez Anaya and her husband, Gustavo, and Alejandra Mendez; her siblings, Carmen Vargas, Celia Hernandez, Adela Mercado, Luisa Velasquez, Petra Vargas, Maria Partida, Julia Vargas, Victoriano Vargas, Pedro Vargas, Francisco Vargas, Jose Refujio Vargas, Patricia Vargas, and Martin Vargas; daughter-in-law, Maria Martinez; sons-in-law, Pabel Jaimes and Rafael Rebollar; 30 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. with Recitation of Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2020 at Mission Funeral Home - South Side, 6204 S. First St., Austin, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 9th Street, Austin, Texas. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery, S IH 35 Feeder Rd., Austin, Texas. Rosary will be live-streamed to allow those unable to attend to participate. Each person entering the funeral home, church, and cemetery will be required to wear a mask and to practice social distancing of 6 feet or more. If you are ill or are concerned about the virus, it is recommended that you not attend services. The family is so grateful to everyone for their understanding, love, and support during this very difficult time.
