Leo "Lou" Elias Obituary

Lou Elias went home to be with his Saviour on September 9, 2020 at the age of 91.  He will be missed by many of us. Lou was born in Coaticook, Quebec, the third child to Michel and Maria Elias.

He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Mitch and his sister May (Proulx).  He is survived by his wife Edith, son Timothy, and daughters Heidi Elias-Bertrim and Kim (Marcel) Phillips, as well as his grandchildren Tawnya, Tina (Emmanuel) and Robert (Becky) and great grandchildren Julia, Jenna, Reese, Allie, Micaiah, Layna, and Riley.

Lou spent his early years as a minister on the mission field in the Labrador and Magdalen Islands, PQ; at St. Paul’s Church in Charlottetown, PEI; Bearbrook/Vars/Cumberland Anglican Church; and St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Ottawa, ON.   He then went on to study psychology and later became a professor at Algonquin College in Ottawa, ON.  In 1996, Lou and Edith relocated to Fort St. John, BC to be closer to their children and grandchildren.  Lou opened up his own counselling practice in Fort St. John and spent the rest of his life devoted to helping people.  He loved writing and wrote 3 books, the latest being his memoir.  His most treasured memories were of times spent at his cottage at Lake Avril, Vermont where he enjoyed fishing, swimming, and playing cards games with his family and friends.

His family will be having a private service to honour his memory. Thank you to all those who bought joy into his life. Thank you also to Dr Thomson, his staff and the hospital staff for your wonderful care.

A very special thanks to Pastor Kebede and Pastor Steve. He truly appreciated you all.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations can be made to the Fort St John Community Enrichment Center, 9228 105 Avenue, Fort St John BC V1J 2L7.
