Rita Joan Biamonte

Rita Joan Gallo Biamonte, age 93, of Chattanooga, TN originally from Long Island, New York died on September 8, 2020. Rita was born in Brooklyn, NY and was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Gallo. She lived on Long Island for 88 years in East Meadow, Roosevelt, Seaford and Port Jefferson. She moved to Tennessee in 2015 to be closer to family. She was a communicant of Queen of the Most Holy Rosary in Roosevelt, NY, Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Port Jefferson, NY and St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Hixson TN. She was always on the go as a Girl Scout Leader, member and officer of the Catholic Daughters of America, member of the Order of the Sons of Italy in America and a dedicated volunteer for what is now Welcome Friends Soup Kitchen in Port Jefferson. She worked for many years in Gimbels Department Store at Roosevelt Field and was a shop steward for the Store Workers Union. Rita enjoyed sewing, traveling, bike riding and just being busy. She was an excellent cook who frequently sent dinner guests home with their own dish of eggplant parmigiana, if they promised to return the plate. Every child she knew could depend on Rita to provide a bag of home baked chocolate chip cookies. There are dozens of friends who proudly don the aprons Rita lovingly sewed.
