Mary F. Greaney Obituary

Orrington - On September 8, 2020, Mary Greaney passed away peacefully at age 95 at home surrounded by her girls. Mary was the mother of six children, and it was her greatest joy to raise them. Mary was born on November 30, 1924 to John Leo and Mildred (Moore) Kirlin in Woodland, Maine. At age 6, they moved to Houlton, Maine and she always considered Houlton to be home. She attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Houlton High School in 1941. That same year she married Arthur Lawrence Greaney and they had 60 happy years together and six children- Arthur, Lawrence, Karen, Sharon, Krista and Karla. Art joined the army and they spent 21 years traveling the world from Japan to Germany and raising their sons. In 1965, they returned to Houlton to raise their girls. They retired to Orrington, Maine where Mary took up line dancing and volunteered to help whenever she could. She also enjoyed being one of the church counters at St Paul the Apostle Parish and did that until March of this year. Mary welcomed everyone to her home and liked having a crowd around. Kids came from all over the neighborhood for snack time and she continued to feed everyone after retirement. She was happy to bring cookies or brownies to the many church functions she attended, and she also volunteered at the Brewer Food Cupboard. In addition to cooking, Mary was a talented seamstress who made wonderful clothes for her girls and many others. Mary is survived by her son Arthur (Chip) of Valley, AL, her daughters Karen and Sharon both of Orrington, Krista Drew (Bobby) of Houlton, ME and Karla McGary (Randy) of Mulberry, FL; three granddaughters, Michelle Lee (Billy) of Ellerslie, GA, Dawn Greaney- White (David) of Valley, AL and Wendy Shaw (Chris) of Torrington, CT and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur, her son, Lawrence and daughter-in-law, Brenda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated privately at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Teresa Catholic Church, So. Main St., Brewer and burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. For those who wish, memorial donations can be made to St. Paul the Apostle Parish, 207 York St., Bangor or the Brewer Food Cupboard.
