<p>PHILLIP LEWIS JOHNSON SR. (SYDNEY) A.K.A. SLICK,&nbsp;was born on September 5, 1953 to his loving parents Theresa Johnson and Purnell Gray. He was called home on September 9, 2020.</p> <p>Sidney was raised in Baltimore, MD. He was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. He furthered his education at Coppin St. University where he obtained his Criminal Justice Degree.</p> <p>He was employed at Oles Envelope Corporation and Phillips Seafood as a machine operator. He pursued a career in security for the Federal Government at the Social Security Building, where he met his love (Shirl).</p> <p>Sidney and Shirl met in 1982 and married on May 5, 2005. Together they raised Andrae (Poppy), Phillip (Nooney), Tia, Kinte (Tink), Kenya, Aaron and Patryce. They were the center of his being.</p> <p>Sidney was baptized and became a member of Highway Christian Church over eight years ago. Sidney also had a thing for fashion. His mother told us how Sidney loved to wear a TIE with everything at the age of five.</p> <p>Did you know that Sidney loved to roller skate and was the ring master at the Coliseum on Monroe Street? Did you know that Sidney was in a singing group back in the day called &quot;Tone&nbsp;Expressions&quot; with his buddies Sandy, Bill, Quincy and Ronnie?</p> <p>Sidney A.K.A. Slick had such a passion for his music..1st He began to &quot;Rock Steady&quot; with the Whispers. 2nd He loved to slow it down with &quot;Pretty Brown Eyes&quot; by Mint Condition. 3rd And let&#39;s not forget about how he started &quot;Dancing in September&quot; by Earth, Wind and Fire. A song we will always remember.</p> <p>He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory: his loving wife, Shirley Myers Johnson; mother, Theresa Johnson; seven beautiful children, Andrae (Poppy), Phillip (Nooney), Tia, Kinte (Tink), Kenya (Bumbles), Aaron (Erin) and Patryce (Tryce); nineteen grandchildren, Andre, Tyjae, Nyja, Shawnta, Tamaera, Miyah, Jazsmine, Tajae, Jayden, Jayla, Kinte, Shakur, Kinte Jr.,&nbsp;Treyvon, Donte, Carter, Terrell Jr., Tyler and Treasure; two great-grandsons, Kingsten Marquise Johnson and Kinte Johnson III; one sister-in-law, Rosalie (Jackie) Smith; three sisters, Diddy, Bargie and Vickey; two brothers, Marty and Boodang; his one surviving aunt and uncle Barbara and Eddie Rich; a host of beautiful nieces and handsome nephews and cousins.</p> <p>Best friends, Irving Bastfield (Bill), Michael Gilford (Bean) and Larry Taylor; a special daughter and son, Shawntia (Shawn) Jones and Terrell (Rell) Carter Sr., and a host of other relatives and friends. Sidney is preceded in death by his father Purnell Gray, brothers Wolfgang, Gerald and sister Donna.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
