Susan Elizabeth Shingler

Susan Elizabeth Shingler, 71, of Valdosta, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at Fellowship Home following a lengthy illness. She was born on August 30, 1949, in Savannah, Georgia, to the late Vinson and Ruth Shingler and moved to Valdosta with her family when she was six months old. She went to the Valdosta City Schools and graduated from Valdosta State College. She moved to Atlanta and taught school before going to work for Southern Bell. She later returned to Valdosta to be closer to her family taught at the Lanier County Elementary School until declining health forced her into early retirement. Susan was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Valdosta. She is survived by her sister, Sally Kurrie; nieces and nephews and their spouses, Thompson and Stephanie Kurrie, Lee Kurrie, and Mary Margaret and John Williams, and several great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her niece, Elizabeth Rhymes Kurrie. The family appreciates the care and love from her long-time caretakers, Charlie Mae Maxwell and Tamika Maxwell and the staff at Fellowship Home. A graveside service for Susan Elizabeth Shingler will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2020, at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
