Victoria Penn Porcupine Plain, Saskatchewan Obituary

Victoria Penn

Victoria (Vicky) Penn was born in Melfort, Sask on July 31, 1926. She was the second child of eleven born to Elias and Mary Stolearciuc. Vicky took all her schooling in Hudson Bay, 3 miles from the farm and at the age of 19 she took her teaching training at the Normal School in Moose Jaw. At the age of 20 she started her teaching career which took her to several towns in rural Sask….Margo, PrudHomme, Indian Head, Duff and Pangman. Her early teaching years were done in a one-room school house with grades one to twelve. Vicky held a very high standard in teaching and this influenced her students into working hard to achieve their goals. After teaching ten years in Saskatchewan, Vicky continued her profession in Edmonton and did that until her retirement in 1989. In 1962, she married George Penn who was also teaching as a mechanic instructor at various schools in Edmonton. Vicky & George loved to travel and took many holidays…..Disneyland, Yellowstone, England and Romania to name a few. George passed away in 1991 after 29 years of marriage. Even though Vicky was a firm and highly motivated teacher she had a very soft and compassionate heart for her students and family. She loved family so much that she would drive from Edmonton to the farm many, many times throughout the year despite the weather conditions. Yes Vicky, God really blessed you with a long life (94 years) and the special gift of serving, teaching and making such a difference in so many people’s lives….Well done Sis. We will really miss you, however, we have such a strong assurance knowing where you are….with Mom, Dad & family……. We are experiencing a lot of sorrow but happy and joyful that you are now in the arms of Jesus….We all love you so much. For the past two years, Vicky resided in Pineview Lodge in Nipawin so Jennifer & I witnessed the care, love and kindness that she received on a daily basis from the staff….she really loved the Pinehaven residents (friends as she called them) and staff. On behalf of all the family, we want to sincerely thank them for making Vicky’s short stay there so enjoyable. Vicky was predeceased by her Dad (Elias), Mom (Mary), Husband (George), Sister Lee, Brothers, Reg, Richmond, Raymond, Richard, Ronnie and niece Linda. She leaves behind her immediate family of sister Betty (George), brothers Roland (Jennifer), Reynald (Sandra) and Ross. Also, many nieces, nephews and their families.
