Rufus “Rufe” Duane Silvus Obituary

Rufus (Rufe) Duane Silvus, 86, of McConnelsville passed away at 7:15 am, September 9, 2020 at his home. Rufus was born May 20, 1934, in Morgan County, son of the late Edwin and Mildred (Devitt) Silvus. He graduated from Malta-McConnelsville High School in 1952, was a former member of several  Civic Organizations. Rufus was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in McConnelsville, Ohio for 60 years and served on several committees of the church. Rufus retired from the United States Postal Service, after 32 and one half years, of which the last 15 years he served as Postmaster. He also worked 5 years for the Village of McConnelsville, Ohio. Rufus and his wife enjoyed all sports, especially high school and college sports. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Patricia (Welch) Silvus, whom he married July 10, 1955; one daughter, Vicki (Gary) Kuntz, of McConnelsville, Ohio; one grandson, Nathan (Stephanie) Kuntz and daughters, Kinsley Grace and Miley Ann of Plain City, Ohio; two step grandsons, Clint (Kendra) Kuntz, and son Elijah Christian of North Dakota University, and daughters Mia Ainsley and Aireonahh Nichole of Tucson, Arizona; and Curt (Jackie) Kuntz, and daughters Ava Rose and Halle Ann, of McDonald, Ohio and Parkland, Florida; sisters, Sara Harper of McConnelsville; Wendy (Danny) Ray of Malta; and a sister-in-law Betty Silvus, of Canton, Ohio.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Rufus was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dorothy Wilson and Betty Maloney; brothers, Neil Silvus and Dayle Silvus, and a step great grandson, Ethan Gary Kuntz. Calling hours will be Saturday, September 12, 2020 from 12-2 pm at Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Lee Ann Dunlap and Pastor Galen Finley officiating. Rufus will be laid to rest in McConnelsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 73 S. 9th St., McConnelsville, Ohio 43756.
