Barbara A. Kiriluk Flemington, New Jersey Obituary

Barbara A. Kiriluk

Barbara Anne Kiriluk, 78, died Monday, September, 8, 2020 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township, N.J. following a sudden illness. She was born in Toronto, Canada to the late Jean (nee Kohut) and Walter Wilson and immigrated to the United States with her family. She attended Catholic schools in Toronto and the U.S., graduating as valedictorian and president of her class at St. Mary’s Villa Academy in Sloatsburg, N.Y. She met her loving and giving husband of 60 years, William, at a New Year’s Eve celebration at a popular Ukrainian hall in New York City and moved to the family farm in West Amwell Township after they married. While raising her children Barbara studied psychology at Trenton State College. Warm and truly interested in people’s stories, she was an active community volunteer and hosted numerous gatherings for family and friends. Her competitive streak emerged during countless evenings playing cards, games or bowling. Skilled at canning and handiwork, she earned hundreds of ribbons at the annual Flemington Fair. Her uncle was a professional hockey referee and she was a lifelong Toronto Maple Leafs fan. She embarked on a retail career when Flemington was a factory outlet destination and quickly rose to management at Ship’n Shore, Fashion Flair and Izod. An avid reader with a strong interest in medicine, she later completed community courses at a teaching hospital and served as an administrator for Ewing and Flemington podiatrist Dr. Thomas McGuigan. “Baba” to her grandchildren and their friends, she was a fixture at their many events from preschool through college graduations and happily kept them fed during their adventures on the farm. She is survived by her loving and giving husband of 60 years, William; daughter and son-in-law Renee Kiriluk-Hill and David Hill of Delaware Township; son and daughter-in-law Mark and Janine Kiriluk of Lumberton, N.J.; four adored grandchildren, Zachary Hill and Alexander Hill of Delaware Township; Matthew Kiriluk of Charlotte, N.C. and Anna Kiriluk of Warsaw, Poland; sister and best friend Joanne Vershousky (Anthony) of Palmer Township, Pa.; and dear friend Betty Shaler of Ewing. She was predeceased by her brother, Peter Wilson.
