He graduated from East Grand Rapids High School and Central Michigan University with a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. One of Skip’s favorite places to go with Sally was the island of Maui. They would spend the winter in Maui, work from the beach, play golf and act like locals. Skip and Sally were also married on the Kaanapali beach with Katie, Caroline, Shawn and Sherri in attendance. He is preceded in death by his parents, Royce and Jaqueline Clay. Surviving are his wife, Sally Ann Clay; his children, Katie (Doug) Campbell, Caroline Kauffman; and Shawn (Sherri) Irwin; grandchildren, Lauren, Ava, Bailey, Aiden, Harrison, Morgan, Hannah, Elle and Drake; and brother, Scott Clay and his children, Nate and Cassie. Skip’s wishes were to have a small family memorial service.
