Meta Augusta Ellington Ward, age 71 of Whiteville, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center in Whiteville, NC.

Meta was born on September 27, 1948, to the late Sam E. and June Hudler Mellette Ellington. She was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Samuel Jess Williamson and Parker Jacksynn Ward.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at Worthington Funeral Home, with Rev. Dave Heller officiating; Interment will follow in the Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. 

Ms. Ward was a member of the Whiteville Rescue unit for eleven years, three of those years, she honorably served as the chief.

Survivors include two daughters, Kristine “Kris” Williamson and husband, Chris of Chadbourn, Amanda D. Rogers and husband, Vann of Lake Waccamaw; a son, J.T. Ward and wife, Jayme, of Delco; grandchildren, Jared Williamson, Hilton Register, Hadley Ward, Trenton Ward.
