David E. Bacon Obituary

David E. Bacon , 78 of Groton, New York died unexpectedly, September 5, 2020 at his home.

Born February 15, 1942 in Syracuse, New York he was the son of the late Alfred C. Bacon and Mary. Soutar. As an infant he was adopted by Eva Mae Sovocool Bacon.

Having been a long time resident of Groton he had been a 1960 graduate of Groton High School. Dave was a jack of all trades and had worked at various places as a custodian and in his later years he had his own cleaning business. He was one to always lend a helping hand to anyone in need and enjoyed playing his guitar which reflected his love for country music which he shared as a ministry playing at hospitals at Christmas time and as a friendly face around Groton singing Christmas carols and playing during old home days. During the years he also had played with several bands and he was very proud of the fact that he became an inductee into the country music park Hall of Fame in Cortland. Dave was a member of the Peruville New Testament Church and enjoyed James Bond Movies, fishing and giving piggyback rides to his grandchildren. He was an avid berry picker and can and bottle picker, keeping our ditches and roadside spotless.

He is survived by his children, Jodi (Dustan) Bierwiler Of Millport, New York and David E. (Donna Bradshaw) Bacon Jr. and Don (Wendy) Bacon both of Georgia. He also has 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews and a half sister, Connie Kone of St. Petersburg, Florida.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Golley Bacon in 2017, his brothers,Jack and Leonard Savage, and Michael Bacon in 1969 and a sister Irene Thompson in 1989.

A memorial service will be held at the Peruville New Testament church on Friday, September 11, at 5:00 p.m. with Rev. John Iler officiating..

Memorial contributions can be made to the church or to the Cortland country music park in David’s name.
