John Bernhard Heidtman

MARQUETTE, MI – John B. Heidtman, age 91, of County Road 480, entered eternal life Saturday, September 5, 2020, at Trillium Hospice House, in the loving, comforting care of family, Trillium and UP Home Health and Hospice staff. Born June 24, 1929, in Marquette, a son of Carl and Mary (Rosin) Heidtman, John was raised on the family farm in the West Branch/Skandia area on Heidtman Road. He attended the Heidtman School and later Marquette’s Howard School. Throughout his youth, John helped out on the family farm, developing a strong work ethic and learning the value of a good days (hard) work. With a later move to Marquette, John was employed with Ahonen Lumber Company also taking side jobs logging. In the early 70’s, he left the sawmill and started his own logging and trucking business, Heidtman Logging. For over 40 years, John harvested and hauled wood before turning the business over to his two sons. John loved being outdoors and over the years developed a love of antique cars and tractors. He had a special preference for using and collecting Ford trucks. In his leisure, he enjoyed nothing better than watching his boys in their offroad racing competitions, camping in the travel trailer, and spending time at the camp on Shag Lake. Survivors include his wife, Alice (Cummings) Heidtman; sons, Jack (Chris Burnis) Heidtman and Gary (Beth) Heidtman both of Marquette; four grandchildren, Jeffrey (Scott Groleau) Heidtman, Jennifer (Jim Potvin) Heidtman, Angela (Jason) Liberty, and Katie (Mike) Rowe; thirteen great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson; numerous nieces, nephews. and cousins. Honoring family wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and will be announced.
