Deida Rachel Rice

DeIda (Dee) Rachel Rice, 87, of Rochester, Minnesota, peacefully went home to be with the Lord September 2, 2020. She was born on December 30, 1932 to Wayne and Arcolia Dial, in Grand Junction, Colorado. She had three brothers, Bill (Marilyn) Dial, Virgil (Alice) Dial, and Lee (Letitia) Dial, and one sister, Wanda (George) Wootten. Dee married Henry Norman Rice on August 23, 1952 in Hanford, California; they joyfully celebrated their 68th anniversary this year, and their lasting marriage has been a source of inspiration to their family and friends. Dee was a homemaker, wife, mother, and dedicated servant of God. She and her family loved to travel, visiting family and interesting places. She loved gardening and cooking, and in later life she was an avid painter. Mom (fondly known as "Oma" by her grandkids) enjoyed teaching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren about her hobbies and crafts. Later in life, Dee and Henry were honored to minister at the Nazarene Well House in Rochester, Minnesota, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to offer temporary housing to visitors of the Mayo Clinic. In addition to Henry's work on the remodeling of the Nazarene Well House, Henry and Dee also served as the first house caretakers. Dee is survived by her husband, Henry; her children, Norman (Valerie) Rice of Olympia, Washington, Nelda (Dan) Stroop of Simms, Montana, Jim (Sandra) Rice of Rochester, Minnesota, and Lisa (Marty) Belong of San Jose, California; she has 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Viewing will start at 10 a.m. and celebration of life will start at 11 a.m. at Rochester First Church of the Nazarene on Friday, September 4, 2020, with a family graveside service to follow.
