Wilma W. Harrington Obituary

Wilma W. (Myers) Harrington, 94, of Shawnee, passed away Thursday September 3, 2020 at her home. Wilma was born on September 23, 1925 in New Cambria, MO the daughter of the late Arthur and Letha (Thompson) Myers. On September 21, 1946 Wilma married the love of her life Roman Harrington. They had 2 sons, Bob and Jerry. Roman and Wilma were married for 72 years before his passing last year. They had a strong marriage filled with faith, love and family. Family was very important to Wilma. She was one of 6 children and loved having a big family with everyone around. Wilma and her siblings were very close. They shared a love for the lake and spent many weekends at their lake lots in the summers. They also loved spending holidays together with their growing families. One of Wilma’s greatest joys were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was fortunate to experience being a grandparent at different stages in her life. Her grandchildren had a way of keeping her young and always in good spirits. One of Wilma’s talents was her ability to cook. She used that talent as a career working in schools to prepare and serve lunches. She worked at Shawnee Mission West High School for many years. The people that got to enjoy her cooking the most though, was her family. Holidays always centered around what Wilma prepared to eat. Breakfast always consisted of eggs, bacon, and homemade biscuits and gravy. Thanksgiving will never be the same without her homemade noodles and pies. Wilma was known for her pies. Her family can go on and on about what their favorites were. Wilma was a strong woman. Strong in her faith and strong in her conviction. She endured loss in her life, but always picked herself up and continued to live her life and love her family. She was always supportive and involved in the lives of those she loved. Wilma is preceded in death by her husband, Roman Harrington; infant son, Richard; son, Bob Harrington; brother, Ervin Myers; sisters, Lucille Watson and Margie Smith; brother-in-laws, Dale Green, Herb Watson and Walt Smith. Wilma is survived by son Jerry (Julie) Harrington of Shawnee, KS; daughter-in-law, Debbie Harrington of De Soto, KS; four grandchildren, David (Roxy) Harrington, Lisa (Danny) Julian, Jacob Harrington and Jessica Harrington; four great grandchildren, Makenna Julian, Aubrey Julian, Kaylin Julian and Ryese Evans; brother, Ray (Pat) Myers; sister, Evelyn Green; and family friends Mike and Edna Skelton. Our family would like to thank the nurses at Vitas Hospice for the love and care that you showed Wilma and our family during this time. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Vitas Healthcare.
