<p>Jay Crayton Mabry, 73, of Kannapolis, passed away Monday morning, September 7, 2020, at his home, following a period of declining health.</p> <p>Born January 11, 1947, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Jake and Elizabeth Dunnmon Mabry.&nbsp; In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Whitley Mabry, and sisters, Karen Mabry Blevins, Neisa Mabry Hudson and Jan Mabry Stallings.</p> <p>Jay had honorably served his country, and retired after 21 years of faithful service, as a member of the US Army, where he was a staff sergeant. &nbsp;He had bravely served 2 tours of duty in the Vietnam War. Mr. Mabry enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and especially enjoyed &ldquo;skating date nights&rdquo; with his granddaughter, Jayden.&nbsp; A loving and devoted father, grandfather and friend of many, Mr. Mabry will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He loved all of his family and had a special love for his white boxer, Tonka, and his mustang cars.</p> <p>Family members include his daughters, Nita Dunn (Chuck) and Elissa Lyerly (Christopher); his sisters, Sylvia Mabry Couvier (Jim); his loved grandchildren, Kyndoll Roach, Jayden Athey, and Peyton and Katelyn Dunn; nieces, nephews and extended family members.</p> <p>The family will receive friends from 11:00-1:00 pm Friday, September 11, 2020, at Whitley&rsquo;s Funeral Home.&nbsp; Services to remember and celebrate the life of Mr. Mabry will begin at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Everette Stotesbury.&nbsp; Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove, with military rites.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>For those who may prefer, memorials in Mr. Mabry&rsquo;s name may be made to Hospice of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC&nbsp; 28081.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
