Marcus Eugene Schlueter Obituary

Marcus Eugene Schlueter, 92, of Ryan, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2020, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. He was born on December 2, 1927, in Guttenberg, the son of Henry and Eleanora (Miller) Schlueter. Marcus was raised in the Guttenberg area, and then the Dundee area where he attended school. He served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War.

On January 4, 1975, Marcus was united in marriage to Joyce (Wenger) Hand at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Monti. Over the years Marcus farmed in the Ryan area and remained active in farming until he was 90.

Marcus was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Knights of Columbus.  He was a member of the American Legion for 58 years and was also an active member of the Lions Club. Marcus enjoyed gambling, playing cards with the neighbors, and traveling. He especially liked visiting Dorinda in Texas.

Marcus is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joyce Schlueter of Ryan; his step-daughter, Dorinda Hand of Pasadena, Texas; one brother, Francis (Theresa) Schlueter of Ankeny; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Schlueter of Masonville; one brother-in-law, Bill (Bonnie) Wenger of Ryan; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, Viryl, Gerald, and Jerome (Martha) Schlueter; and one sister, Bernice Schlueter.

Because of COVID-19 concerns, masks are strongly recommended at the funeral home and required at the church.

If you are uncomfortable attending either service, the family understands.
